Potato

Yes, potato! Potatoes do an excellent job of lightening dark spots. They’re full of natural bleaching agents that work effectively on hyperpigmentation and blemishes. Grate half a potato into a pulp.

Apply this pulp directly on to the dark spots and wash it off after 15-20 minutes. Using this mask regularly will help in reducing hyperpigmentation.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is packed with antioxidants along with vitamins A and C. Polysaccharides, a component of aloe vera, aids in reducing dark spots thereby making the skin look clearer. Scoop out some aloe vera gel from a freshly plucked aloe leaf and apply it to your face. Rinse it off after 15-20 minutes. With consistent use, your dark spots will start fading away.

Oatmeal

Apart from being a wholesome breakfast, oatmeal is known to reduce blemishes effectively. Oatmeal has some amazing anti-inflammatory properties which help in soothing sensitive skin and it a great natural exfoliator as well. Mix 3 tbsp oatmeal, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp milk together to form a paste. Apply this paste to your face and wash it off once it dries completely. You can apply this oatmeal face mask three times a week for clearer skin.

Turmeric

This list would be incomplete without turmeric, the magical herb. Curcumin, an essential component of turmeric, is an effective weapon for getting rid of blemishes fighting off hyperpigmentation. Mix 1 tsp of turmeric with 1tbsp of milk and 1tsp of lemon juice. Apply this paste to your dark spots and rinse it off with water after 10-15 minutes. Repeat this process 2-3 times a week for stronger results.

Green tea

Green tea does a great job of reducing dark spots. It is packed with antioxidants and vitamin c that are known to control melanin production. Wet two tea bags and pop them in the freezer for about half an hour. Put these tea bags on your dark spots and let them sit for at least 20 minutes. This works against puffy eye bags too.

Cucumber

The humble cooling cucumber is loaded with vitamins and nutrients that make it an important part of any healthy diet. But did you know that cucumber works wonderfully in reducing blemishes? Cucumber has a component called ‘silica’ which helps in reducing dark circles. Cut a few slices off a cool cucumber and let it rest on your under-eye area for about 15-20 minutes before washing it off with water. Repeat this process 3-4 times a week.

Buttermilk

Thanks to the presence of lactic acid in it, buttermilk works really work in clearing away dead skin cells and reducing blemishes. This makes your skin look more even-toned. Pour some buttermilk into a bowl and dip a few cotton pads in it.

Place these cotton pads on your dark spots for 15-20 minutes and then proceed to wash it all off with water. As buttermilk is pretty mild, you can make use of this remedy every day!
